home Aim -

Our general aims are to stimulate students via the undergraduate and graduate curricula and to develop a research program with the combination of basic and applied marine science to emphasize sustaining utilization of marine resources.

home Features -

  1. Fisheries Biology and Management: To focus on assessment of biological resources in order to carry on a fisheries management concerned about sustainability, to expand our knowledge on biology of targeted fisheries species, and to improve our ability in stock assessment to develop and manage sustainable fisheries management with responsible fishing technology.
  2. Environmental Biology and Conserving Biodiversity: To concentrate on the interrelationship between biodiversity and marine environment and to assess marine biological resources and conserve biodiversity through our understanding of the environmental impact on marine resources and biodiversity.

home Graduation Requirements & Program Curriculum-

Bachelor of Science (BSc) - 132 credits are required (78 general requirements plus 54 electives). 4 to 8 weeks of on-boat (or shore-based) training is required during the school recess.

Students are required to be major at least in one of the following programs:

  1. Fisheries Science Program: courses required including Biological Oceanography, Fisheries Biology, Fisheries Technology, Remote Sensing & Global Climate Change, Biological Resource Management, Fisheries Policy & Management and other assignement courses.
  2. Environmental Biology Program: courses required including Environmental Biology, Marine Ecology, Marine Biology, Ichthyology, Environmental Chemistry, Ecotoxicology, Coastal Pollution & Management, GIS, Conservation Biology and other assignement courses.

home Research -

  1. Environmental Biology: To emphasize research on interrelationship between biodiversity and marine environment, particularly the environmental impact on marine resources and biodiversity and incorporation of assessment of biological resources with conservation of biodiversity.
  2. Fisheries Science: To focus research on assessment of biological resources, fishery management, and fishing technology pertaining tosustainable fisheries management. Our goal is to achieve sustainable utilization and effective management of fishery resources based on the knowledge of fisheries biology and stock assessment along with responsible fishing technology.

home Source of Funding for the Scholarship Program -

  • This is 1-year Chinese Language plus 4-year Environmental Biology and Fisheries Science scholarship Bachelor program are funded by theInternational Cooperation and Development Fund ( TaiwanICDF )

  • Students who are awarded this scholarship will be offered one (1) year of Chinese language classes in NTOU. Students will be benefitted from these classes as increasing the ability to speak and to understand Chinese, and as being capable of passing the language proficiency exam - Test Of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) Level-3 , as the requirement of this scholarship, in order to continue the undergraduate study.

 home Program Duration -

  • The policy of the duration of the scholarship for bachelor's program is limited to five years. (If pass the TOCF Level 3) [Pass of the TOCF Level 3 is a requirement]
  • After passing the TOCFL Level3 , foreign students should complete and successfully pass all courses within the next four years, and receive the Bachelor degree conferred by the Department of Environmental Biology and Fisheries Science, National Taiwan Ocean University in accordance with the regulations of ROC (Taiwan) Ministry of Education.
  • If student fails to finish the requirements for the bachelor degree within the stipulated time period, the scholarship provided by the Taiwan ICDF should not be extended.
